Rapid diagnostics will play a vital role in the future of combatting infectious diseases. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the prevalence of secondary and co-infections in patients diagnosed with COVID-19. Rapid diagnostics can aid in the early identification of secondary and co-infections in these patients. Current diagnostic methods are limited by lack of sensitivity and extended time to the identification of causative pathogens. Earlier identification of causative pathogens allows for faster-targeted therapy, thus aiding in improving patient outcomes and combatting antimicrobial resistance.
