The Crucial Role of Rapid Diagnostics in the Early Detection of Secondary Bacterial and Fungal Infections Complicating COVID-19

Rapid diagnostics will play a vital role in the future of combatting infectious diseases. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the prevalence of secondary and co-infections in patients diagnosed with COVID-19. Rapid diagnostics can aid in identifying secondary and co-infections in these patients early. Current diagnostic methods are limited by lack of sensitivity and extended time to the identification of causative pathogens. Earlier identification of causative pathogens allows for faster-targeted therapy, thus aiding in improving patient outcomes and combatting antimicrobial resistance.
